David Bowie Biopic

For my final major project in second year of university I chose to design and make for a David Bowie Biopic. I chose to focus on some of his most iconic personas throughout his fame, covering a variety of decades and time challenging androgynous fashion. I conducted deep research into his life and discovered the hidden stories and emotions behind every persona and costume David Jones (Bowie) presented.
I decided to make the 1980’s Ashes to Ashes music video costume, partially inspired by his former theatre Pierott character. This song describes the astronaut, Major Tom, floating isolated in space as he has succumbed to a drug addiction, which Bowie partially based the lyrics on his own experiences with drug addictions throughout the 1970’s.
Below you can see the construction images and the design drawings I recreated, along with an original design based on a real life event. For my original design I decided to focus on the moment he met Iman, the love of his life. In my research I discovered he showed up to a date in a full white denim suit, which I based my design on.
